Our Story

Amidst the COVID-19 lockdown in 2020, violence against women and girls surged. Getting food and meeting other basic needs became a daily struggle for most families. Men faced pressure to provide for their families, leading to increased Gender-Based Violence (GBV). At this critical time, Husna B.K. Etum, the then Protection Manager at Planning for Tomorrow Youth Organisation (P4T) in Kyangwali, faced an overwhelming number of domestic violence cases. She used their emergency family savings to set up Wezesha Financing Scheme to support former market vendors to start over and grow their businesses through an Innovative Reverse Saving Loaning Program. Reflecting on the positive impact, the success of this scheme led to the creation of Wezesha Women Initiative (WEZESHA) in July 2020 and the subsequent non-profit incorporation in June 2022.

About Us

WEZESHA was established in 2020 to enhance access to basic needs, economic opportunities, and social protection services for women and girls. We work with Refugee and Host Community population in Kyangwali Refugee Settlement (Kikuube District), Women in Business in Hoima City, and the post conflict population of Northern Uganda in Oyam and Apac Districts.

“By addressing these critical areas, the Wezesha aims to create sustainable pathways for women and girls to escape the cycle of violence and poverty.
