Social Norms Change on Gender
Social Norms Change on Gender initiative employs a transformative, community-centered approach to address and reshape deep-rooted gender biases that limit human potential and perpetuate inequality.
Through carefully designed dialogue sessions, participatory workshops, and cultural events, the program engages diverse community stakeholders—including traditional leaders, religious figures, men, women, and youth—in critical reflection on how gender norms impact economic opportunities, decision-making power, and overall wellbeing.
Rather than imposing external values, facilitators use locally relevant examples and storytelling to help communities examine the practical and ethical implications of existing gender practices, visualize more equitable alternatives, and develop their own pathways toward positive change.
The initiative complements awareness-raising with practical support for gender-equitable behaviors, such as men’s engagement in caregiving, women’s participation in leadership roles, and equitable resource distribution within households.
By addressing gender norms at multiple levels—individual attitudes, family dynamics, community practices, and institutional policies—the program catalyzes sustainable shifts that unlock new possibilities for economic advancement, healthier relationships, and more resilient communities where all members can fully contribute their talents and realize their potential.
